School Uniform Changes at StJV: A gradual change across this session: School uniform is a big part of our school. I greatly appreciate the efforts P&Cs go to maintain the high standard of uniform across the school. Thank you! Establishing and maintaining a school dress code has many benefits. These include improvements in safety, security in the school grounds, discipline, and importantly positive community spirit and school ethos.
Of paramount concern is pupil safety, particularly on school trips. Since the introduction of free pupil bus travel, classes now more regularly use local buses and walk along Edinburgh’s busy streets a few times per year. Of paramount concern is the safety of pupils. To support this, we are gradually moving to a single school colour (Red) instead of 2 colours. Black is a very commonly worn colour by the public and this can make ‘spotting’ pupils on buses and along street more difficult. A single school colour enables staff to quickly identify classes and individual pupils on the buses and streets, ensuring pupil safety.
I greatly appreciate P&Cs support in this. For your guidance, the dress code for St. John Vianney RC Primary School is:
Girls
- White polo shirt
- Red Jumper or cardigan
- Black trousers or shorts
- Black skirt or pinafore or trousers
- Sensible dark shoes
Boys
- White polo shirt
- Red Jumper or cardigan
- Black trousers or shorts
- Sensible dark shoes
P7 Uniform: As above except: P7 school tie with stiff collared shirt and V-Neck jumper or cardigan
Promoting our senior pupils and their leadership role in our school, P7s wearing the school’s traditional P7 tie, presented to P7 pupils by the Mr Kelly at the beginning of P7. This helps our senior pupils stand out even more as they undertake their leadership roles throughout the school and local community, wearing their uniform and representing our school with pride!
All branded with logo- uniform is available through the school’s supplier: https://stjohnvianneyrcps.imagescotland.com/ Non-branded is equally fine.
P.E. Uniform: On P.E. days, pupils may wear normal school uniform as noted above and joggers/trackie -bottoms and/or shorts. Pupils will be encouraged to undertake P.E. in shorts on warmer days. Sensible sneakers/trainers. No clothing associated with football clubs should be worn to school, during PE or when representing the school in the locality. The school promotes learning outdoors all year round, including PE. Outdoor PE kit (joggers/tracksuit etc) and outdoor trainers are an important part of the PE kit.
All items of clothing should be clearly labelled with the child’s name in case of loss.
Thank you for your support with school uniform.
